Rumor: Metroid Prime 5 Reportedly Still in Development at Retro Studios
According to insider NWeedle, Metroid Prime 5 may already be in development at Retro Studios.
Back in 2020, NWeedle claimed that the fifth installment was being developed alongside Metroid Prime 4. Now, new information suggests that Retro Studios has reportedly been commissioned to create new environments, which could point toward continued work on another major Metroid project.
On May 26, 2026, NWeedle allegedly received confirmation that the project is still ongoing.
As always, this information should be taken with a grain of salt, as Nintendo has not officially announced Metroid Prime 5 at this time.
Would a fifth installment be worth it? With the long wait for Metroid Prime 4 and the strong legacy of the series, many fans would likely welcome another entry — especially if Retro Studios can continue expanding the atmospheric world and gameplay that made Metroid Prime so iconic.
Given that Metroid Prime 4 wasn’t as successful as hoped, this news comes as a bit of a surprise. Since development apparently took place in parallel, the game could be released much sooner this time around than the fourth installment of the Metroid Prime series.
